Duran Duran forced to cancel Porto Alegre show With just a few days remaining on the South American leg of their 'Red Carpet Massacre' world tour, Duran Duran have been forced to cancel their show in Porto Alegre, originally scheduled for Tuesday 25 November, because they are now being told that there is no way to get their equipment out of Brazil in time to guarantee that it will get to their next stop in Mexico. The trip from Brazil to Mexico is one of the longest on the tour and the size of their production is proving much harder to move around than originally anticipated. For the past few weeks the band's production team have been working with the local promoter to try to secure a safe and timely passage from one country to the next, guaranteeing expedited customs clearances at both ends, but today it became apparent that they were fighting a losing battle and the band reluctantly agreed to cancel the last of their four shows in Brazil, in order to make it to Mexico, where they are only slated to perform for two nights. Tickets for the Porto Alegre show will be refunded at the point of purchase. The band hope to reschedule this date on their next trip to the region. All other Brazilian shows: Sao Paulo on November 21 and 22, and Rio on November 23 will remain. The trio is promoting their latest effort called Fantasía Pop, an album that has already sold more than 350 000 copies worldwide. This Mexican band has found some good responses outside our country and has recollected several nominations and some wins on several award giving ceremonies such as Latin MTV, Billboard Awards, Premios Oye and Premios Lo Nuestro, among others. Belanova was formed around the year 2000 in Guadalajara, México, but it wasn´t until the hyear 2002 that they got signed by Universal Music. Labeled as Electro Pop, the trio is well known for simple lyrics that nevertheless have profound meanings. Their music has been used for some Pizza Hut and Sony Ericsson Tv ads. Their name came about when they were on the early stages of the band, recording home made demo tapes and sending them to New York producers. However, in order to have some chance of getting their music into the office of some executive, they needed a name. Some friend recommended Belafunk, which wasn´t exactly what they were looking for. They kept the first part of that name and then decided they wanted to have something to do with space, stars and such things. Looking through some dictionary they discovered the word nova, which is a stellar phenomena. They combined the two words and Belanova was born. Cocktail, their first album, came in 2003. The promo single was “Tus Ojos”, a song that reached number 1 in twelve different states of the country. Two years letaer they recorded in Argentina their sophomore effort, this one called Dulce Beat, The two singles were “Por tí” and “Me pregunto”, both very successful. DURAN DURAN'S JAMES BOND THEME VOTED BEST EVER Duran Duran's James Bond Theme Voted Best Ever By Fans In Gigwise survey by Jason Gregory Thursday, October 30, 2008 Duran Duran's theme tune for the James Bond film A View To Kill has been voted the best ever by fans. The song, which shared its title with the 1985 film, came top ahead of Shirley Bassey's 'Goldfinger' and 'Live and Let Die' by Paul McCartney & Wings in the Gigwise survey. Carly Simon's 'Nobody Does It Better' – from The Spy Who Loved Me – was fourth, while another of Bassey's Bond themes, 'Diamonds Are Forever', came in at five. The James Bond theme has become one of the most coveted recording tasks of in all of film. Duran Duran were originally chosen to record the theme for A View To Kill – written in collaboration with composer John Barry - after bassist John Taylor approached director Cubby Broccoli at a party. The track sees the band's trademark 80s electro collide with the lavish and sophisticated cunning found in many of the franchise's theme songs. Other artists whose songs made the top-ten in the Gigwise survey included Nancy Sinatra and Tina Turner. Meanwhile, Jack White and Alicia Keys' track for the new Bond movie Quantum of Solace rounded off the top-ten.
